We are proud to offer what is arguably the rarest variation of the World War II U.S. Navy diving knife ever produced: the non-magnetic beryllium-bronze Vince Forge model. These extraordinary knives were developed for divers operating in some of the most hazardous underwater environments imaginable, where conventional steel equipment could trigger magnetic influence mines attached to ships or harbor defenses. Their specialized purpose, limited production, and demanding service have made surviving examples among the most coveted military diving knives in existence.

The Vince Forge variation of the U.S. Navy Standard Dive Knife is already recognized as one of the most distinctive and desirable military diving knives of the Second World War. While following the familiar Navy pattern, the knives manufactured by the Vince Forge Company of Easton, Pennsylvania incorporated several unique features that set them apart from every other wartime contractor.

Three characteristics immediately identify an authentic Vince knife. The most recognizable is the swivel ring mounted at the end of the handle, a practical feature never specified by the U.S. Navy and never adopted by any other manufacturer. Vince also employed a distinctive sawback with 13 teeth per inch instead of the standard 12, giving the blade a noticeably different profile. Finally, the company boldly marked its name directly on the blade, another feature unique to Vince production. None of these details were required by Navy specifications, making Vince knives instantly recognizable and highly sought after by collectors today.

As exceptional as a standard Vince knife is, this example belongs in an entirely different category. In addition to retaining all of the classic Vince characteristics, it features the highly desirable non-magnetic beryllium-bronze blade. These specialized knives were produced for underwater mine clearance and other sensitive operations where magnetic steel blades posed a serious hazard. Following the war, non-magnetic knives of this type continued to see use with Explosive Ordnance Disposal units and later specialized Navy underwater teams, including early UDT and SEAL personnel.

The exact reason Vince departed from the standard Navy specifications remains something of a mystery. Surviving examples suggest the company received relatively small wartime contracts, resulting in far fewer knives than those produced by the larger manufacturers. When combined with the extremely limited production of the non-magnetic beryllium-bronze version, the result is a knife that many advanced collectors spend years searching for without success. Among World War II U.S. Navy diving knives, few are considered more elusive.

This particular example remains in very good original condition. The varnished maple handle is exceptionally well preserved, while the brass sheath has developed a rich, even patina with only light handling marks accumulated over decades of careful use. The original beryllium-bronze blade has never been polished, preserving its untouched appearance, and exhibits only minor scattered oxidation typical of the alloy. Equally important, the "Vince Easton, PA U.S.A." maker's mark remains clearly visible, a detail frequently lost on surviving examples. The distinctive swivel ring is also completely intact and in excellent condition, completing one of the finest and most desirable features unique to Vince production.

Whether displayed beside a U.S. Navy Mark V diving helmet or showcased in an advanced military or diving collection, this extraordinary non-magnetic Vince Forge knife represents an opportunity that rarely presents itself. With more than eighty years having passed since these specialized knives were produced, complete and original examples have become exceptionally scarce. For the serious collector of World War II diving equipment, this is the kind of piece that may not become available again for years.
