Frequently Asked Questions About Consigning
Can I consign just one diving helmet?
Yes! Many of our consignors have just one antique diving helmet.
Do you accept entire collections?
Yes! With collections, we can customize the auction and make it a special event, highlighting all the effort and time put into building it and ensuring it is properly marketed.
Can you arrange shipping?
Yes! We have a very easy and safe method of shipping a single helmet or many at one time.
How are auction estimates determined?
With over 20 years of experience buying and selling antique diving helmets, we have extensive sales and auction records to draw on when estimating individual items.
How long before an auction should I contact you?
Now! We are always planning for the next auction. However, we want to avoid having duplicate items in the same auction. We place items in our auctions on a first-come, first-served basis.
Can I place a reserve my item?
We generally do not have hidden reserves on items in our auctions. By providing our consignors with clear estimates based on actual sales and two plus decades of experence, we give you an excellent idea of what items should bring on the current market.
Do museums consign with Nation's Attic?
Yes! We understand that diving helmets may not fit into a museum's collection, and that the funds could be used to preserve and display other items relevant to the museum's goals.
Can you travel to view collections?
Yes! We enjoy meeting our clients and traveling the world to pick-up diving helmets and collections.
Do you accept diving helmets from outside the United States?
Yes! Regardless of where you are located in the world, we can facilitate getting your diving helmets in our auctions.
What are the fees associated with auctioning my diving helmets?
Typically, we simply charge a commission on the final selling price of the item(s). That fee or percentage is based on the value of the item or collection, and the expenses of getting the item or collection to our facility,
How long does it take before I get paid for my auctioned items?
Typically, we pay our consignors within 30-45 days after the auction.
Do you accept items other than antique diving equipment?
Yes! On occasion, we will split up our auctions to include a separate collection of items. Many of our consignors have multiple collections.
Is an auction better than simply selling my helmet outright?
That's a great question and one that depends on the individual item or collection. We do offer both services and are happy to provide you with numbers for both options before making a decision.
