We are proud to offer a rare opportunity to own a very early Kirby Morgan SuperLite 17 helmet, complete with factory-installed parts rarely seen today!
Approximately two years ago this helmet was discovered by a commercial diver who took note of its unusual early components. After sending photos to Kirby Morgan the helmet was verified as being made in 1978. While the early date is notable, the original parts still somehow remaining on this helmet are remarkable.
A representative at Kirby Morgan made the following comments regarding this helmet’s orange knobs: “Before the KMB 18 was introduced, our Bandmasks (KMB8/9/10) were made by US Divers and used the orange knobs. Once we took over the manufacturing, we retained the remainder of their stock which included the orange knobs. So the orange knobs were a temporary factory color from KM. So the consensus here is that they were the original parts that came with the helmet.”
Additional rare original applied parts are the Snoopy headliner with speaker pockets, diaphragm with four bumps initially used on the Conshelf, and early original oval decals on each side of the helmet.
Discovering a SuperLite 17B with these original, rare components is already exceptional.
To find one in such a remarkably unaltered condition is truly extraordinary. The fiberglass shell, exhibiting only the slightest traces of use, remains remarkably well-preserved. Both the exterior and interior components maintain an astonishingly high level of condition. We invite you to examine the detailed photographs to fully appreciate this exceptional find.
