Since its debut in 1968, the DESCO (Diving Equipment and Supply Company) Air Hat—also known as the Free Flow or Pot Hat—has become one of the most iconic and widely used commercial diving helmets in the world, a testament to its enduring design. Constructed of spun copper with a large acrylic window, the Free Flow remains in production today. This specific helmet is an extraordinary example: one of the very first Free Flows ever made in 1968, boasting an incredibly low serial number of 6. Made in the Summer or Fall of 1968, it was only the fourth commercial unit sold and was originally acquired by the Westinghouse Corporation (the first two were presented as gifts).
 
In 2021, this historically significant helmet received a full cosmetic restoration, both inside and out, by DESCO itself.
