John Date was an early maker of diving helmets in North America. Based in Montreal, Canada, the company was also the only manufacturer of diving helmets and related equipment in Canada. Many early John Date helmets were based on the English Siebe Gorman helmets, made in London. Many John Date helmets are not stamped or marked. Later, helmets had a brass ID plate on them. We have also found several John Date helmets with a 2nd brass tag indicating the company who owned them originally. John Date helmets were made in the 19th Century and well into the late 20th Century.  It is important NOT to clean or polish a John Date helmet. Leaving its original patina is very important to our clients and us. If you have a helmet that was made by John Date, please let us know. You might be surprised just how much we can pay!
