Morse "Successors" 1930's Commercial Helmet!
Offered for sale is a seldom seen type of Morse Diving Equipment helmet. During the late 1930s A.J. Morse & Son was sold and the new business name became Morse Diving Equipment Co. Inc. For a brief period of time the company installed on their helmets a ID plate making sure everyone know Morse Diving Equipment was the successor of the famed AJ Morse & Son Company. These ID plates and helmets are referred to by some collectors as "successors".
This helmet has the classic look of a 3 light 12 bolt model made for commercial use. The helmet has seen its share of underwater adventures. The helmet does still retain all 12 of its wing nuts, four brails, spring loaded safety bolt, window guards, glass, internal bonnet air vents, communications fitting, air fitting and exhaust fitting.
As with many helmets, this one has been modified or updated through the years to fit the owners requirements. This is evident by the patch on the back of the bonnet, where presumably a different style air fitting was located. When the helmet was found by Nations Attic it was missing the "successors" ID plate. A replacement plate was applied by Morse.
This helmet was obviously well used but not abused, giving it the unmistakable look it wears. Now in the 21st Century it remains an impressive piece of pre-WWII diving history with just the right amount of patina that will surely impressive friends and fellow collectors.
